We are a team of three academic researchers based in the Business Schools at Queen Mary University of London, University of Surrey, and University of Reading. Click on a team member to find out more about them.

  1. Mark Williams

    Mark Williams

    Dr Mark Williams is the Principal Investigator. He is a Reader in the School of Business and Management at Queen Mary University of London.

    His core research is on mapping socio-economic disparities in the labour market. He has conducted in consultancy/advisory work for government, trade unions, and professional bodies both in the UK and internationally. He joined Queen Mary in 2019. Prior to this, he held posts at the London School of Economics and the University of Surrey. He is an Editorial Board Member at Work, Employment and Society and an Academic Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

  2. Ying Zhou

    Ying Zhou

    Dr Ying Zhou is a Reader in Human Resource Management at the University of Surrey. She is a Co-Investigator of the project.

    Ying’s research focuses on job quality, occupation and employee well-being. Specifically, she is interested in job involvement, skill development, work motivation, career change and subjective well-being. Ying’s research on job quality has been presented to the UK Cabinet Office, OECD and the European Commission and cited in UK, French and EU policy documents. She obtained her master and doctoral degrees in Economic Sociology from the University of Oxford.

  3. Min Zou

    Min Zou

    Dr Min Zou is an Associate Professor in Human Resource Management at Henley Business School, University of Reading. He is a Co-Investigator of the project.

    Min’s research interests include the relationship between HRM and work attitudes/behaviour, individual labour market participation, employment relations and occupational mobility. His research has been published in leading management and social science journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Work Employment & Society and Sociology. Min holds a D.Phil. in Economic Sociology from Oxford University. Prior to Henley, he worked for Bain & Company, one of the premium strategic consulting companies, specialising in Advanced Business Analytics for 9 years.
